Jamie carries out routine molecular analysis of client GCN samples.

Academic background

Jamie has a BA (Hons) Natural Sciences (Zoology) from the University of Cambridge. Although he specialised into conservation science and applied ecology in his final year, this course covered a range of topics from mathematical biology, to cellular biology, physiology, and evolution. During this time, Jamie also participated in multiple research projects. These investigated the effects of replanting oil palm plantations on arthropod communities and biodiversity, the capacity of Bornean tropical butterflies from different habitats to buffer their temperatures, and generated 3D reconstructions of Cretaceous snails in Burmese amber.

Significant Collaborations

Jamie has a background in collecting ecological data both in the UK, as a long-term environmental volunteer at Burnham Beeches NNR, and abroad, in Peru and Borneo during summer vacations as an undergraduate. He also worked as a Summer Research Fellow at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 2019. This involved working on drought resistant sorghum plants and supporting field trials of GM plants and researchers from the WEST and RIPE projects.
