NatureMetrics is a UK-based startup at the forefront of a global revolution in biodiversity assessment. We are seeking applications from individuals with project management skills and experience. NatureMetrics is bringing environmental DNA technologies to the frontline of environmental management around the world. Reporting to our Head of Product Development, and working very closely policy, science and business development teams, you will be responsible for the implementation and delivery of an exciting array projects. These range from very large, multi-country projects with clients who want to identify new ways of monitoring biodiversity to supporting the team to deliver new products and approaches. The role entails excellent stakeholder management skills, and working with team members, funders and project partners to deliver projects on time and on budget. The successful applicant will be an effective organizer, planner, communicator, risk manager, problem solver, and supervisor.

This is a role that requires initiative and you will be comfortable working autonomously where necessary but must ultimately thrive as part of a team.

Familiarity with the tools we use is not essential for this role since full training will be provided.

Roles & Responsibilities

General
  • Responsible for delivering projects on time and on budget.
  • Project management from end-to-end including kick off meetings, setting targets and deadlines, managing delivery and budgets, identifying and managing obstacles, coordinating staff and internal resources, designing risk mitigation plans, and ultimately delivering the high standard that our customers expect from NatureMetrics
  • Notifying Team leaders of any risks to project delivery.
  • Set up and task cross-department delivery teams to manage the delivery of projects
  • Contribute to the development of company-wide processes for managing, tracking and reporting on projects
  • Contributing to tender submissions
  • Providing training to project teams

Personal Specification

Education & qualities
  • Demonstrable project management experience
  • No specific level of education is required
  • A formal project management qualification would be an advantage
Specialist knowledge, skills & experience
  • Excellent stakeholder management skills working with team members, funders and project partners to deliver projects on time and on budget
  • Experience of complex project management with multi-stakeholder teams
  • Ability to manage multiple projects with overlapping timelines and competing priorities
  • Experience of managing project budgets and reporting
  • Experienced with implementing project management software to manage, track and report on project progress and deliverables
  • Excellent communication, written and presentation skills in English
  • Self-starter with good initiative
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment

It would also be an advantage to have:

  • A background in managing ecological, environmental or research projects
  • A background in consulting and client delivery
  • Experience managing projects using the Microsoft environment
  • Experience of growth stage businesses
  • Experience of working on grant-funded projects, delivering reports for funders
  • Fluency in languages other than English
Interpersonal & communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills are vital – we are looking for a team-player
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Organised and meticulous with excellent attention to detail, particularly in relation to documents

Terms and Conditions

Location
  • The post is currently based at NatureMetrics Ltd, CABI Site, Bakeham Lane, Egham, Surrey, TW20 9TY but the company will be relocating to Guildford later this year.
  • There is flexibility for partial home working.
Working pattern and hours
  • The postholder is expected to work 40 hours a week Monday to Friday with core hours between 10am and 4pm. Flexible working can also be agreed with the management team
